THE EARTH SHOOK 3
Matt. 27:51 At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart,…. NLT
At Calvary, the earth shook. The Bible tells us that there is coming a time in which it will shake again. We are quite aware of the earthquakes that regularly occur around the world and the devastation they cause. Yet, none of the great earthquakes the world has known can compare to what is yet to come. Scientists have been warning us for years about big ones that could hit at anytime. The Bible warns us about the really big one that is coming. Rev. 6:12-17
There is coming a day in which God will pour out His wrath on earth. There will be worldwide catastrophes unknown to man. They will increase in their devastation as God purges the earth. A great city, the hub of the world, Babylon, will be hit with an earthquake that will utterly destroy it. A third of its population will die. People everywhere will be in shock at its destruction.
While the world carries on as if it is going to eternally exist, God warns us that it will meet its doom. When God finishes pouring out His wrath, justice will finally be served. He will create a new heaven and earth for us who live in Christ to dwell in.
Because of His great love and mercy, God gives us all a choice. We can continue to carry on like nothing is ever going to happen to us and the world, or we can live as if God is going to keep His word and rain down judgment on earth. We don’t have to live in fear of what is going to happen. We can live in peace with hearts full of love, joy, and sweet contentment if we know Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
We don’t know when God is going to once again shake the earth. The way the world is going, it could be very soon that God will begin to purge the world of sin. I believe that before these things begin, Jesus will come back for the church. Are you living in readiness for His coming? If He were to come today, do you know for sure you will be taken out of the world with the church? If Jesus is your Savior and Lord, you will be with Jesus when He comes back.
