EXCLUSIVE LOVE
Song of Songs 4:12 “You are like a private garden, my treasure, my bride! You are like a spring that no one else can drink from, a fountain of my own. NLT
Even though he didn’t always practice it, Solomon understood the concept of exclusive love within marriage. For a married couple, one’s spouse is the only object of his affections. There is a commitment to one’s spouse that excludes anyone else from their relationship.
Marriage is a covenant relationship between a husband and his wife before God. There are gates put up where no one can pass through. There is no one else allowed in their hearts or marriage. A husband is exclusively his wife’s, and his wife is exclusively his. No one else is allowed to get close enough to be a threat to their marriage.
When a couple sees their relationship as being exclusive, there is no looking on the other side of the fence and pining for someone else. There is no entertaining and feasting on the attention of others. There is no reason for mistrust to rear its ugly head. There is no insecurity during those times when intimacy does not happen.
When God created man and woman and brought them together and they became one, He knew exactly what He was doing; He knew that it was exactly what both the man and woman needed in order to live life at its best. What a wonderful gift of love marriage is from our Heavenly Father. Don’t mess it up. Love your spouse exclusively and only let your spouse be the one who loves you.
