Every task done in the church is important.

John 3:27 John replied, "God in heaven appoints each person’s work."

There is so much that goes on in the church today that is being done without God's hand on it. We do things because no one else will do them. We do things because they catch our interest. We do things because we want others to notice. We do things to make ourselves feel productive and good. But, how many of us do things because we know God has ordained it, that He has specifically equipped us and given us opportunities to do them?

We look to leaders in the church and expect them to be "called" to do what they do. Yet, what about the multitude of other things that go on in Jesus' name? Paul writes in I Corinthians 12 about God through His Spirit giving each of us gifts to serve in the church. We are told that each task is equally important for the well-being of the whole. Somehow we have gotten away from the thought that unless God has done the appointing what we do is not approved by God.

I wonder what would happen if every task that was done in the church was prayed over first asking the Lord to put into place those people whom He has equipped for the task. I wonder what difference it would make if everyone serving in the church were to see themselves as being appointed by God for the task. I wonder how much more effective our serving would be if we were to operate by God's appointments and not our own.

Are you like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole? If so, then the chances are good that God has not appointed you to do the task and you need to discover what your gift is and find a better way to serve. God does not put people into place who are not properly gifted for the task. Discover your gift, nurture it, and use it for the glory of Christ and the betterment of the church.
