GOD’S WAY TO HEAVEN
Micah 6:6-8 What can we bring to the LORD to make up for what we’ve done? Should we bow before God with offerings of yearling calves? Should we offer him thousands of rams and tens of thousands of rivers of olive oil? Would that please the LORD? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for the sins of our souls? Would that make him glad? No. O people, the LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. NLT
We try many different things to try and please God. Why? Where did we get the idea that we can do it better than God’s way? We somehow have bought into the notion that God doesn’t care what we do as long as we do it sincerely. We have become convinced that God’s love for us trumps His justice.
The way to God’s heart is unwavering. We must always strive to do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
Rightness is measured by God’s standards and not ours. He has shown us the way to live and we must follow it. It is living a life influenced and controlled by Christ. It is by faith and not works that we are made righteous before God.
To love mercy is to deeply appreciate God’s goodness to us when He withholds from us the justice we deserve for our sins. It is our treating others with respect and not always clamoring to get even when we have been wronged.
To walk humbly with God is to live knowing that we are not our own. We understand that we are utterly dependent on God for every detail of our eternal life. We understand that we are nothing apart from Him. It is engaging the Lord in how we daily live by depending on Him and seeking to bring Him glory and honor in all we do. It is knowing that apart from Him we can do nothing to please God
