BORN INTO HOLINESS

BORN INTO HOLINESS

I John 3:9-10 Those who have been born into God's family do not sin, because God's life is in them. So they can't keep on sinning, because they have been born of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the Devil. Anyone who does not obey God's commands and does not love other Christians does not belongs to God. NLT

If you are continuing to live a life of sin, you are not in Christ. I know it's a bold statement, but that is what God says. He who practices sin without remorse or wanting to change, is not a child of God. Jesus changes our desire to sin. Gradually our desire to not sin replaces our desire to sin. We become aware of our sins and strive to overcome them. When we sin, we understand what we have done and flee to the Lord for forgiveness. There is remorse because we know we have allowed sin to come between God and us. Our need for God's presence has been damaged because of sin. We seek forgiveness because we long for God's nearness.

It is imperative that we, as God's children, protect our souls from insensitivity towards sin. It is so easy to be lulled to sleep regarding sin. We become so indoctrinated by the world's influence that we no longer recognize sin when we do it. We easily lower our standards and accept behavior and attitudes that God says are sinful as normal. We fail to grasp what is sin. We fail to grasp the significance of sin and why we need to care.

The only way we are going to know what sin is to go to the source which clearly describes what sin is. We must read our Bibles and meditate on its truths. We must pray much so that the life of Christ rubs off on us. We must listen to what the Spirit reveals to us about our soul's condition. We must take seriously our need to have pure hearts before God. A true child of God cannot keep on sinning because God lives in him and not the world. And, a true child of God loves other Christians, regardless of what their church affiliation is or their racial and social background. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

When we are born of the flesh, we are born to sin. When we are born of the spirit, we are born to not sin. There is a constant warfare going on within us with the two. If we are truly born of the spirit, we will win the war over sin; we may lose some battles, but we will win the war.

God’s children are born into holiness and they act like it. Period.
