SEEING IN A POOR MIRROR

SEEING IN A POOR MIRROR
I Cor. 13:12 Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see with perfect clarity.  NLT
This is the love chapter of Scripture. Here the Apostle Paul describes for us what God’s love is like. He strives to help us understand that we must learn how to properly love one another more than any other thing in our daily living. Godly love is the driving force in any godly person’s life. If we have everything going for us and rise to the top of the class in the life of the Church and fail to be godly in our love for others, we have nothing. We are but noisemakers.
There are many things we think we know that we don’t know. We like to tie up the Scriptures into a neat little package. We study it, meditate upon it, and come to the conclusion that we have perfect knowledge of it. We like doctrine. We talk about it and promote it. We frame all Scripture around it and question all who think differently than we do. Now we see things imperfectly. We must not be so quick to conclude that we have all the right answers. We must take a stand on what we believe to be true, but we also must approach Scripture open-mindedly. We must never shut our minds up to the point where the Spirit can’t change them. There are certain Biblical truths that are none debatable. What God has clearly spoken up against applies to all of the body. But, those truths that can be easily seen and understood in different ways should never be tied up into a neat little package and encased in stone.
Someday we will all see perfectly clear the whole of the Gospel, but that someday is not today. When we disagree on understandings, let us resolve to agree to disagree agreeably and unite our hearts and gifts together for the glory and honor of Christ as we serve Him and take the Gospel message out into the world.
One of Satan’s greatest delights is when we, the body of Christ, let our imperfect knowledge divide us and keep us from functioning as one for the glory of Christ. Let us not become tools in Satan’s hands to render the witness of the Church weak and useless because of our differences.
