VALUE YOUR
GIFTS
II. Tim. 1:6-7 This is why I remind you to fan into flames the
spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given
us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. NLT
The thing that really
speaks to me from these verses is Paul's admonition to Timothy to fan into
flames his spiritual gift that God gave him. I believe it is imperative that we
value greatly the gift(s) God gives us. We should accept our giftedness with
thanksgiving. We should be moved by our love for Christ to develop our
giftedness to the best of our ability. We should determine in our hearts to
give the Lord our best efforts in using our gifts in His service.
When we fail to
properly value our gifts, we are insulting our Lord who gave them to us.
Whatever you have been given to use for the glory of Christ, don't take your
gifts for granted. Don't go around thinking that anything less than your best
is good enough.
For Timothy, God gave him the gift of being a
leader in the church. He was a pastor. And Paul was telling Timothy to let it
be seen by all that he was gifted by God to lead. In the same way, we must
strive to excel in how we exercise our giftedness in the church. Be the best
that you can be for the glory of Christ and all will see and give God the
glory.
Gifts vary in type and
function. We are all different and serve the Lord differently. Whatever we do
in service to Christ is our gift. It is offered up to the Lord in love. Using
our gifts is an act of worship that pleases the Lord. Each of us have things we
can do for the Lord. Whatever you do, discipline yourself to do it well. How we
use our gifts is a reflection of our heart for the Lord. If your heart is right
with God, you will willingly and eagerly do what you can for Him.
You have things you
can do to serve the Lord. It is your responsibility to identify them and use
them. The Lord holds us accountable for what we do for Him.
