MONEY AND FAITH
I Tim. 6:10 For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of
evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced
themselves with many sorrows. NLT
Most of us are very
familiar with this verse of Scripture.
We have heard many sermons that have reminded us of its
truthfulness. We notice the effect money
has on people and often cringe at how it has wreaked havoc in their lives. We look at ourselves and if we are honest we
have to admit that it has more power over us than we care to admit.
What always strikes me
about the power of money over us is that it can cause some people to get so
wrapped up in it that they have wandered from the faith in their pursuit of
it. There is just something about money
and the things it can do that draws us away from God. We develop a passion for money and it
consumes us to the point where we lose grip on our passion for God. God gets replaced in our lives and we find
ourselves suffering from spiritual starvation.
We get caught up into
money’s grip and discover that there are many sorrows associated with it. The more we have, the more we want. The more we want the more debt we are willing
to incur that we might get it. The more
debt we have, the harder we discover it is to get out of it. On and on the cycle goes.
Wise and satisfied is the soul who seeks
to find his satisfaction in the Lord and not what He provides. Wise is he who knows that his relationship
with the Lord is all that really matters in life. Wise is he who is able to live in peace and
be content in God.
Thank the Lord for
what you may have, but don’t let what you have be more important to you than
Him. Let the Lord have control of all
you have and the desires of your heart and you will not be held captive by the
things of the world.
