DIG DEEPER
I Tim. 4:16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on your teaching.
Stay true to what is right, and God will save you and those who hear you. NLT
We don't seem to pay a
lot of attention to this admonition of the Word. We are quick to speak and for
the most part slow to think. We don't dig any deeper than we have to into the
riches of God's truths. We gain a basic knowledge of Scripture and believe we
have all the answers to life's questions. We are not afraid to express our
opinions about God and His Word, regardless of whether or not they are based on
our study of the truth or not. We listen to what others say and accept it as
truth without making an attempt to verify it through prayerful study. We become
careless with our minds and thus careless with our living. We must dig deeper.
We are bombarded with
so many different variations of truth that we find it hard to know what we
believe, let alone live it. We are most gullible and are led astray whenever we
let down our guard and fail to be students of God's Word. We must dig deeper.
It is impossible for us to stay true to what
is right when we stay out of God's Word. We buy into the lie that there is no
absolute truth. And when we question absolute truth, we have nothing to build a
solid foundation on for our lives. A total commitment to the Bible as absolute
truth is the only way we can guard our souls against wrong thinking, teaching, and
living.
When we guard our
minds and souls by taking God's Word seriously, we find the path of salvation
that leads to holiness and are able to help others find it too. Pay attention
to what you hear and read. A true child of God never stops being a student of
the Word. He never stops learning from God.
He never stops digging deeper.
How careful are you? Are you keeping a
close watch on what you are learning and teaching? Are you still digging?
