DON’T NEGLECT YOUR GIFTS
I Tim. 4:14-15 Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received
through the prophecies spoken to you when the elders of the church laid their
hands on you. Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself
into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. NLT
How one gets his
spiritual gifts is not the issue here. The point is that we all have gifts
given to us by the Spirit to be used for the glory of Christ in the world and
we are to use them.
The first issue is
identifying our gifts. It is not a matter of whether or not you have any, you
do. Every believer in Christ is gifted to serve Christ in and through the
church. What is it that you can offer to Christ? Gifts are as varied as there
are people. We do things differently than one another and in varying degrees.
God gives each of us gifts suited for our personalities, abilities, and
character to handle them. Whatever He has entrusted to you to use to serve Him,
you are in disobedience if you aren't using them. If you don't know what your
giftedness is, consider what you can do well and find a way to do it to serve
the Lord in and outside the church.
Spiritual gifts are
those things that we offer to the Lord as an act of worship. All of our lives
should be an act of worship. We live in homage to the Lord and should seek
always to please Him. We don't live for ourselves, we live for the Lord.
Throw yourself into
your tasks. Don't half-heartedly serve the Lord. Do what you do with enthusiasm
and energy. If you love the Lord as you should, you will want to give Him your
best efforts. You will want to serve Him so that everyone will see your
enthusiasm and desire for the Lord.
This should be on the
top of our list of things to do in life. We should always be striving to excel
in our ability to serve the Lord. Mediocrity has no place in the life of a
person who truly loves Christ.
