SPIRITUAL FITNESS
I Tim. 4:7 Do not waste your time arguing over godless ideas and old wives tales. Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. NLT
It’s a waste of time and good energy to argue over things that don’t help you grow in your walk with the Lord. We get caught up in the matters of the world and become passionate about them and regard the matters of the soul as less important. We tend to not put a lot of time or energy into keeping our souls fit. Is it any wonder that there are very few of us who are really mature in faith?
In order to be where we should be in our walk with the Lord, we must put a lot of effort into it. Growth does not happen without a deliberate effort on our part. We reap what we sow spiritually. When we fail to pursue the things of God, we fail to get them. We are unable to understand and apply God’s Word to life because we don’t consistently spend adequate time in it. We don’t ask the Lord to help us understand what He says and thus we don’t apply it well to life. We fail to consistently pray and therefore do not know how to pray effectively. We have a careless attitude about worship and participate in it only if it pleases us. We for the most part are lousy witnesses and servants.
Training requires commitment and sacrifice. It requires of us consistent and persistent effort. In order to be spiritually fit we must make it a priority in our lives. We must take seriously our need to train. We must consider everything else of lesser importance to us. Only those who are spiritually fit are able to live victoriously regardless of the circumstances of life. Only those who are spiritually fit can withstand Satan’s constant barrage of temptations to sin. Only the fit are able to correctly handle the truth.
If you truly love the Lord you will work hard to get spiritually fit and do all you can to stay there.
