DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME

I Tim. 4:7 Do not waste your time arguing over godless ideas and old wives' tales. Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. NLT

Spending time arguing over things seldom accomplishes anything good. Rarely does it result in mutual understanding and agreement. Usually it creates ill feelings and a critical spirit. Arguing sets people at odds with each other and destroys the quest for peace.

Instead of arguing, we need to spend our time and energy in training for spiritual fitness. What this means for us is that we focus our time and energy on growing our faith. We spend time studying God's Word to learn how to live godly lives. We seek to understand what we should and shouldn't be doing in our walk of faith. We study to learn more about God and His trustworthiness. No one will grow in faith without a consistent time alone with God in His Word.

Spiritual training involves developing a strong prayer life. We must learn how to stay in touch with God at all times, how to keep God involved in our daily routines. We need to learn how to stay God-conscious as we go about our daily business. Spiritual training involves putting into practice what we learn and sharing it with others. We will not retain much knowledge if we don't put it to the test and live it.

Spiritual training involves learning from others. No one knows it all and can benefit from the insight and understanding of others. We listen to what they say and observe how they live and when it is obvious they are following the Lord, we follow their example.

Spiritual training also involves learning how to get along with others. If we can’t get along with others, we will never be effective witnesses for Christ outside the church. We must learn to put into practice the principle of agreeing to disagree agreeably when we encounter issues that would divide or destroy fellowship.

Do not waste your time. Be smart and use your time wisely and constructively. Don't get into wasteful arguments. Spend your time and energy in training yourself to become spiritually fit. Only those who are spiritually fit are able to handle life well. Only the spiritually fit are assured of their going to heaven when they die.
