EQUALITY IN GIVING
II Cor. 8:12-13 If you are really eager to give, it isn’t
important how much you are able to give. God wants you to give what you have,
not what you don’t have. Of course, I don’t mean you should give so much that
you suffer from having too little. I only mean that there should be some
equality. NLT
Giving comes from the
heart. If you really have a desire to
give, then it pleases God when you give.
However, God does not want us to give beyond our means to give. Scripture gives us some guidelines to follow,
but it does not mean that it is in the best interest of all to follow them
exclusively. The Lord honors those who
give as He moves their hearts to give.
Giving out of duty kills the spirit of giving.
The Lord does not
expect us to give when we simply can’t give without neglecting the basic needs
of our lives. But, He does expect us to
give when our needs are being met and we have the means to give. To not give and use what we have on other
things to satisfy our wants is sin.
Sometimes the Lord
moves us to give when we don’t have it to give to test our faith. When that happens, give and trust Him to
supply your needs. He will not let you
down. There should be no confusion about
this. The Lord will make sure you know
that it is of Him and that you are not being led to give out of false
persuasion.
Giving is not just
confined to our finances. It involves every
area of our lives. The Lord wants our
whole involvement in Him. He wants part
of our time and talents as well as our treasures. He blesses those who are willing to give back
to Him that is rightfully His in the first place.
A willing heart is
rooted in a loving heart. If we truly
love the Lord, we will not be willing to withhold from Him anything we can give
to Him. Let us always strive to let the
Lord have His share of every part of our lives.
