Judges
2:10-12 After that generation died,
another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the
mighty things he had done for Israel.
Then the Israelites did what was evil in the LORD’s sight and worshiped
the images of Baal. They abandoned the
LORD, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They chased after other gods, worshiping the
gods of the people around them. And they
angered the LORD.
What happened and why did it happen? A whole generation grew up who did not acknowledge
the Lord or remember the things He had done for them???? How is that possible?
The only thing that could have happened
was that those who knew the Lord did not pass on to their children their
knowledge of Him. How tragic! Here we have a generation of people who
missed out on the things the Lord wanted to do for them because they were not
taught to love the Lord, trust Him, and serve Him.
The greatest gift that we can leave our
children and grandchildren is our faith.
The responsibility for the spiritual lives of this generation falls on
us. We must live a positive and
victorious Christian life for them to imitate.
We must instill within them a hunger for God’s Word by reading and
talking about it before them. We must
instill within them a desire for life in the church by our attendance and
involvement. We must instill within them
a desire to serve the Lord by our involvement in serving Him. How we live out our faith is seen by those
who share our lives. No one can blame
this generation for not embracing the faith if we don’t inspire them to do so
by being examples worthy to be followed.
