Ps. 119:47-48 How I delight in your commands! How I love them! I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your principles.
Do you like to be told what to do? I don't know of anyone who does. We want to be in control of our lives and do things our way. After all, it's our right to do so, right? Well, maybe. God gives us the freedom to choose what we want to do, with the understanding that with choice comes responsibility. We have to answer to Him for the choices we make.
If you delight yourself in God's Word, your choices will be clear and you will not consider them to be burdensome. When we see God's Word as our lifeline to Him, we approach it differently. Taking time to spend in the Word becomes something we really love to do. Life just isn't right when we aren't into the Word. We find in the Word, God. We discover in the Word the way to God. We welcome with open hearts the Word into our hearts. We don't dread obeying God; instead, we eagerly strive to put into practice what God shows us as we study and meditate on the Word.
We honor God's Word by the way we live. We hold the Word up in high esteem. We look to the Word for wisdom and guidance. We trust what God reveals to us. We do not try to alter it in any way or accomondate it to fit what we want it to say. We honor it by the prominence we give it in our lives.
We meditate on its principles. We don't just read them and move on; we spend time mulling them over in our minds. We think about ways in which we can apply them to life. We marvel at their relevance. We measure ourselves by them and adjust our living accordingly.
You will delight yourself in God's Word if you truly love the Lord. If you find yourself neglecting the Word or taking it lightly, you need to re-examine your love for God.
