CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT
I Thess. 5:5-6 For you are
all children of the light and of the day; we don't belong to darkness and
night. So be on your guard, not asleep like
the others. Stay alert and be
sober. NLT
By nature, the child
of God is a child of the light, not darkness.
We should naturally shun the darkness.
We should always be on the alert for tempting situations as they crop up
in our lives. We should always know sin
when we encounter it and strive to resist it.
We should always strive to maintain pure and godly hearts. We should never fall asleep when it comes to
our souls.
Sadly, most of us
don't do what we should be doing. We get
careless and don't always watch over our souls and minds. We allow ourselves to linger in the presence
of sinful behavior. We listen to things
that are cloaked in sin. We read things
that are not good for the mind and soul.
We get careless about keeping strong devotional lives. We lose our sense of what is and is not sin.
We embrace things that
are clearly called sin in the Scriptures.
Instead of changing our mindset and behavior regarding sin, we try to
justify it or we call it some other name. We don't treat sin like that big of a
deal. We claim that God loves us and
will not condemn us for our sins, even though we know He is holy and must deal
with it.
Only those who live in
the light will make it to heaven. We
must be on guard and resist sin. We must
not compromise or cater to sinful behavior.
We must always strive to a holy people; for without holiness, no one
will see God.
Children of the light
are aware of what tempts them and strive to not put themselves in a position to
be tempted. They are honest with
themselves when they do sin and repent of it.
They seek out God’s Word and embrace what God calls sin and work to keep
it out of their lives. They gravitate
towards holiness and seek to please the Lord.
